Phlebotomist PRN

Collects and transports blood samples from inpatients and outpatients. Monitor drug screen collections and document chain of custody. Review workload and resolve issues. Assists with clerical duties and provides specimen and report transport when necessary.

Responsibilities

Collects and transports blood samples from inpatients and outpatients; monitors drug screen collections and documents chain of custody; reviews workload and resolves issues; assists with clerical duties and provides specimen and report transport when necessary; performs venipuncture, capillary fingerstick or heel puncture; uses judgment for individual blood collections; routes specimens to appropriate area for testing; follows OSHA standards; proficient at accessioning, rescheduling, and ordering/canceling test requests in Laboratory computer system; available by pager for stat/asap collection; interacts with employees and patients; works closely with phlebotomists and laboratory personnel; monitors blood collection requests; answers phone and organizes workload; reviews status of orders/tests and follow ups

Requirements

Must be eligible for certification as a phlebotomist; High School or GED Diploma Graduate; Completion of approved phlebotomy training course, or 6 months phlebotomy experience in hospital or other patient care setting; computer knowledge and skills; manual dexterity; maintain patient confidentiality; must be able to use visual near and distance acuity; verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio; functional range of motion; grip strength of 60-80 pounds; ability to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change position rapidly; ability to lift 25-60 lbs and carry 25-50 pounds; ability to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors; ability to remain calm under stressful situations; ability to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously; ability to prioritize job tasks and organize work space
