Production Control Engineer II

To support and maintain the Buffalo Data Center. The team culture is easy going but we get the work done. We are not afraid to have the conversations and look to each other as sources of information to educate each other in areas we are not familiar with. Projects currently being worked are: updating cabling, cabinet consolidation, and documentation. This is in addition to our daily tasks of hardware installs, break fix, and decommissions.

Responsibilities

Assist the primary on site person for the position; Responsible for physical deployment of data center-related technologies including end-to-end monitoring, testing, capacity planning, preventive maintenance, and repair of data center equipment and associated electrical, alarming, and monitoring systems per vendor specifications at the enterprise data centers; Manage daily operations of production control activities for systems software and hardware, data and applications; Work with product teams to define, architect and implement tools to enhance availability, scalability, cost-efficiency, and performance of IT environment; Ensure capacity planning for IT environment and implement performance metrics and event-driven alerting; Provide second-level production support and maintain system management tools; Participate in the disaster recovery processes/exercises and ensure preventive maintenance activities are carried out to maintain business continuity; Ensure that major revisions to applications in production are passed after thorough testing and proper documentation according to change management and software development life cycle; Recommend suitable software solutions and ideas for automating tasks of daily operations; Document standard operating procedures and share frequent progress reports/updates with required stakeholders; Support and maintain the Buffalo Data Center; Daily tasks include hardware installs, break fix, and decommissions; Projects include updating cabling, cabinet consolidation, and documentation; Comply with all policies and standards

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; 2-4+ years of experience; Experience with data center infrastructure projects required; Experience with structured cabling copper/fiber, testing of cables, cooling, and electrical systems concepts inside the data center required; Be able to work independently; Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science) with 2 – 4 years of related experience or equivalent experience; IT operations and administration required; managed health care environment and related industry regulations required; Comfortable working fully onsite at the Getzville facility; Adapting to a Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–7pm schedule after initial training; Solid technical grounding in structured cabling (copper/fiber), cable testing, and data center cooling and electrical systems; Judgment to troubleshoot hardware installs, break/fix issues, and decommissions independently; Thrives in a collegial, "figure it out together" team culture; Communicates proactively about schedule or attendance issues; Self-directed enough to manage daily operational tasks without close supervision; Intermediate - Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty; Intermediate - Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
