Public Safety Officer I - Armed (PSO I)

Position: Public Safety Officer - Armed. Location: Advocate Medical Group - 4600 N. Ravenswood Ave., Chicago, IL. PRN/Registry - on-call; Monday-Friday, some weekend coverage as needed. 1st and 2nd shift availability - can be discussed.

Responsibilities

Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion; complies with and enforces safety and security rules; maintains uniform and equipment; performs routine interior/exterior patrols to ensure safety and security; assists team members, patients, and visitors; ensures traffic control; monitors conduct of visitors; confronts unauthorized persons; prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence; serves as primary resource for de-escalation; performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies; responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations; physically intervenes when potential for injury; investigates incidents and completes reports; escalates complaints; performs liaison rounding; delivers security awareness education; liaisons with state and local law enforcement; coordinates, briefs, and monitors law enforcement prisoner patient guards; maintains training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, clinical restraints, Taser, and department-issued equipment

Requirements

Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by IAHSS within two years of appointment; valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle; Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card issued by Illinois State Police OR Concealed Carry Weapon license issued by DOJ; meet State of IL Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licensing requirements and obtain Firearm Control Card (FCC) for Proprietary Personnel within 90 days of hire; certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire; High School Diploma or GED; typically requires 1 year of experience in security, public safety, or customer service including responding to emergent situations and identifying/resolving risks; Illinois team members must have completed State of Illinois 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement; willingness to carry department authorized firearm while on duty, with firearm and level III holster purchased, supplied, and maintained by the officer; annually achieve passing score of 70% or greater on State of IL Mandatory Annual Active Duty and Retired Officer Handgun Qualification Course of Fire; demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning; demonstrated experience in quickly assessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action; demonstrated ability in verbal and written communications; ability to use computer (Microsoft Word, Excel, web page navigation, database entry); successfully pass background investigation, drug screen, pre-placement physical and psychological screening; ability to defend self/others and physically restrain a person if necessary; ability to communicate effectively and hear radio/telephone communications; ability to communicate via radio/telephone with clear diction; ability to interact appropriately with all team members, patients, and visitors; must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday, lift up to 35 lbs, push/pull with 35 lbs of force, safely operate a firearm; 20/20 vision correctable to 20/20 with lenses; ability to handle personal stress and possible violence
