Public Safety Officer II - Armed (PSO II)

It's More Than a Job, It's a Calling! Position: Public Safety Officer II - Armed at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (IMMC); Chicago's Northside near Wrigleyville; Full Time; 3rd Shift; Hours: 11pm-7:30am.

Responsibilities

Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion; enforces safety and security rules; maintains department uniform and equipment; performs routine interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security; identifies vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions; audits Interim Life Safety Measures; manages patient valuables; performs contraband searches; assists team members, patients, and visitors; ensures traffic control; monitors conduct of visitors; confronts unauthorized persons; prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence; responds to service calls; serves as primary resource for de-escalation; plans, prevents, practices, and responds to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats; physically intervenes when needed; investigates incidents and completes reports; addresses and escalates complaints; performs liaison rounding; delivers security awareness education; liaises with state and local law enforcement; coordinates and monitors prisoner patient guards; assists as training resource; serves as preceptor for probationary officers; prepares lesson plans; serves as field instructor; assists department leaders with administrative duties; reviews reports and records; inspects uniforms, equipment, supplies; maintains training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, clinical restraints, Taser, and department-issued equipment

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED; 4 years of experience in a security or public safety role including responding to emergent situations and identifying/resolving risks to patients, visitors, staff, and/or property, OR 30 credit hours in Criminal Justice/Police Science or similar and 3 years work experience with 1 year in a security/safety role; Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by IAHSS must be obtained within two years; valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle; Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card OR Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license; must meet State of IL licensing requirements and obtain a Firearm Control Card within 90 days; certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days; Illinois team members must have completed State of Illinois 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement; willingness to carry a department authorized firearm and maintain approved firearm/level III holster; annual passing score of 70% or greater on State of IL Handgun Qualification Course; demonstrated mature judgment and sound reasoning; demonstrated experience assessing dangerous situations; verbal and written communication skills; ability to use computer (Word, Excel, web, database); must pass background investigation, drug screen, pre-placement physical and psychological screening; ability to defend and/or physically restrain individuals; ability to hear and communicate via radio/telephone; ability to interact appropriately under difficult circumstances; physical requirements including sitting, standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 35 lbs, pushing/pulling with 35 lbs of force, firearm operation, 20/20 vision, exposure to hazards, and physical fitness
