Public Security Officer

Provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion even in challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training.

Responsibilities

Provides security services with a customer-service approach; inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members; performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols; prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence; serves as a primary resource for de-escalation; responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations; investigates incidents on property and completes reports; performs liaison rounding duties; liaisons with law enforcement and first responder agencies; maintains current Department training standards; assists with exterior traffic and crowd control

Requirements

Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by IAHSS must be obtained within two years; valid driver's license issued by Division of Motor Vehicles; for Illinois teammates, completed State of Illinois 20-hour Basic Security Officer course; for Illinois teammates, Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) issued by Illinois State Police; for Wisconsin teammates, Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by DOJ; certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (e.g. TASER) use within 90 days of hire; high school graduate or GED; typically requires 1 year of experience in security, related public safety, or customer service; above average emotional intelligence; ability to function in work environment; daily commitment to patient-centered safety practices; collaborative work with medical staff and external law enforcement; ability to remain calm under pressure; ability to interact with peers; must pass background investigation, drug screen, pre-placement physical post-offer; must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout workday; lift up to 35 lbs occasionally; push/pull with 35 lbs of force; 20/20 vision in both eyes or correctable; may be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards; frequent exposure to aggressive behavior and emotionally charged situations; must handle personal stress and possible violence; physically fit and able to walk all areas, restrain, assist lifting patients.
