Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient

The registered nurse (RN, RN II, RN III) performs professional nursing activities in the care of patients so they may achieve or regain, and then maintain, maximum physical, emotional or social functions. Role functions are governed by the Nurse Practice Act, the Administrative Code (in the state of employment), as well as the professional standards for nursing practice, and the corresponding policies and procedures of Rogers Memorial Hospital (Rogers). The registered nurse seeks consultation with other members of the health team as the patient's condition and treatment goals warrant. He/She, in conjunction with the Patient Accounts department, provides patient information to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes.

Responsibilities

Complete initial patient assessments and documentation; Collect, record, and analyze admission assessment data; Involve patient support systems in assessment and documentation; Act as patient advocate and protect patient rights, privacy and confidentiality; Initiate and update treatment plans and documentation; Participate in care conferences and represent the nursing care component of the treatment plan; Review lab data and follow up with doctor; Evaluate fall risk and initiate fall precautions; Identify potential for self-abuse, suicidality and/or assaultive behavior; Administer medications safely and accurately, transcribe and implement physician orders, and conduct patient medication education; Identify patient care problems and impending instability and intervene appropriately; Implement health education and teaching for patients and families before discharge; Ensure EMTALA compliance for admissions, transfers and related care when designated as QMP; Adhere to safety and infection control standards; Participate in continuing education, in-services and performance improvement programs; Assume charge nurse role, including coordinating unit activities, facilitating admissions, planning patient care assignments, and supervising LPN/psychiatric technicians; Maintain a primary caseload; Provide acuity monitors to the Patient Accounts department for billing; Support Joint Commission and regulatory compliance

Requirements

Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment; License must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment; American Health Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire; Bi-annual CPR re-certification required; Formal training in management of the aggressive patient required within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire; Annual re-certification required for aggressive patient management training

Nice to have

Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred; Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents and adults preferred
