Respiratory Therapist - Special Limited Term

This special temporary - limited term employee - role for external candidates will allow an experienced RCP to be oriented via an expedited on-boarding process including Skills Assessment and Competency Checklist and protocol reviews and precepted shifts. Applies scientific knowledge, technical expertise and theory to practical clinical problems and is often required to exercise clinical judgment. Provides therapeutic, diagnostic, consultative and supportive services for neonatal through adult patients and their families. Actively participates in resuscitative and emergent situations. Functions within professional and hospital standards.

Responsibilities

Applies scientific knowledge, technical expertise and theory to practical clinical problems and exercises clinical judgment; Provides therapeutic, diagnostic, consultative and supportive services for neonatal through adult patients and their families; Actively participates in resuscitative and emergent situations; Understands and satisfies the developmental needs of patients and families, modifying approach and communication to allay fears and explain procedures; Initiates, performs and maintains Respiratory Care Competencies in accordance with quality and safety standards; Determines techniques for optimal patient care, accurately bills for respiratory care modalities, and identifies and responds to emergent/urgent situations; Participates in the discharge process and provides patient/family education; Participates as an active member of the case management process; Collaborates with the health care team to provide efficient patient care; Keeps supervisor/charge therapist apprised of shift activities and workflow issues; Attends educational offerings, in-services, and department and hospital meetings

Requirements

Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy; At least 2 years of RCP experience in a hospital setting providing respiratory care; License Respiratory Care Practitioner (28) - State of Wisconsin; RRT-Registered Respiratory Therapist - The National Board for Respiratory Care; CRT; BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification; PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification; Basic personal computer skills; Analytical skills to resolve complex clinical problems relating to respiratory care issues and patient safety; Ability to work independently with time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills; Ability to cope with physically and mentally stressful situations; Interpersonal skills for collaborating with peers, supervisors and medical staff; Ability to stand and walk for up to 80% of work time; Ability to push or pull equipment up to 170 lb; Ability to lift equipment/supplies up to 25 lb; Ability to lift or move patients from neonate to adult; Ability to assemble complex equipment and perform fine motor skills; Commitment to a 20-week assignment at 36 hours per week (3x12-hour shifts)
