Staff Engineer

Illumio is the leader in ransomware and breach containment, redefining how organizations contain cyberattacks and enable operational resilience. Powered by the Illumio AI Security Graph, its breach containment platform identifies and contains threats across hybrid multi-cloud environments. The Engineering team works with a cutting-edge technology stack spanning operating systems, distributed applications, and immersive UI/visualization tools. The platform is Kubernetes based.

Responsibilities

Develop containerized (micro) services for a distributed multi-tenant system that processes data, real-time events and network telemetry from multiple public clouds; Design your service, work out all of the details, defend the design/architecture before peers, and deliver a robust implementation; Mentor junior engineers, new-grads, and interns; Write code primarily in Go and work with data pipelines using SQL or other interfaces; Own critical features and subsystems and the entire software development lifecycle, from clarifying requirements to successful deployment and customer usage; Own operational aspects of the system; Own code quality through early developer testing and functional/integration testing; Partner with Product Management to review and refine requirements; Develop a deep understanding of customer problems through interaction with stakeholders and peers

Requirements

Bachelor's in computer science or equivalent degree; 8+ years building distributed & scalable software and systems; Passion for software development, willing to constantly learn, keeping up with technological trends, and working in a team setting; AWS / Azure / GCP cloud experience, extensively used at the API/programming level; Experience delivering a containerized service (desired); Experience in Go and SQL; REST API client experience; Unix/Linux programming environment experience

Nice to have

Master's degree; Experience with networking and security controls; CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible; General TCP/IP networking knowledge
