Structural Technical Director

A leading civil & structural engineering consultancy delivering major projects across data centres, logistics, energy, pharma, retail and large-scale development is seeking an exceptional Structural Technical Director. This is a senior technical specialist role for someone who wants to stay deeply hands-on, solve complex engineering challenges, and influence technical excellence across the business. The role involves acting as the go-to expert for complex structural design problems, providing advanced technical direction across multiple project teams, concept development, detailed structural analysis, design reviews, buildability assessments, and solving non-standard engineering challenges. The successful candidate will help shape design standards, mentor engineers, and contribute to a Centre of Excellence focused on quality, innovation and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Leading the technical design of complex structural projects; Developing efficient, elegant and buildable structural solutions; Advanced analysis across steel, concrete, masonry and timber; Reviewing high-risk or complex designs and providing specialist guidance; Supporting project teams with alternative approaches and engineering judgement; Driving design excellence, digital innovation and sustainability; Capturing lessons learned and improving technical processes

Requirements

Chartered Engineer (CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE); Significant consultancy experience in structural design; Exceptional technical capability and deep understanding of structural behaviour; Strong experience solving complex, non-standard engineering problems; Ability to guide engineers without taking ownership away from project teams; Excellent communication and commercial awareness
