VP Engineering, Robotaxi

Wayve is building a new generation of autonomous driving technology powered by end-to-end AI. The Robotaxi Engineering team turns that intelligence into a complete Level 4 autonomous driving system. As VP, Engineering, Robotaxi, the role leads the engineering organisation responsible for taking the Robotaxi product from development through deployment and scale, owning engineering strategy and execution and working closely with AI, Product, Validation, Vehicle Engineering and Operations leaders.

Responsibilities

Own the engineering roadmap and execution for Wayve's Level 4 Robotaxi product; Bring together AI, software, hardware, vehicle systems, validation and operations into a complete autonomous system; Drive the engineering work required to progressively remove the safety driver, building confidence through development, validation and evidence; Lead the development and integration of on-vehicle software and systems that sit between Wayve's AI Driver and the physical vehicle; Work closely with Validation, Safety and Engineering teams to build the technical systems and evidence required for safe driverless deployment; Establish feedback loops between fleet behaviour, engineering development, validation and release; Make and influence critical architectural decisions across AI, software, compute, sensors and vehicle systems; Turn ambitious technical goals into clear priorities, ownership and milestones; Build, lead and develop a world-class engineering organisation, including senior engineering leaders and deeply technical individual contributors; Partner with AI, Product, Validation, Application Engineering and Operations organisations to deliver the complete Robotaxi product

Requirements

Led a significant engineering organisation building autonomous vehicles, robotics or another complex real-world autonomous system; Experience developing and deploying safety-critical software and hardware systems in the physical world; Strong technical depth across complex software systems and ability to operate credibly with senior engineers across AI, embedded software, systems and hardware; Understanding of taking autonomous technology from development and testing into real-world, production-grade operation; Experience owning a complex product or system end-to-end; Strong systems thinking across software, hardware, vehicle behaviour, safety, reliability and operational constraints; Built and led large, high-performing engineering organisations and led senior managers, directors and technical leaders; Ability to combine long-term technical strategy with execution and make difficult prioritisation and architectural decisions; Comfortable operating in ambiguity and taking accountability for outcomes without an established playbook; Cares deeply about engineering quality while balancing it with the urgency of getting technology into the real world; Exceptional cross-functional leader

Nice to have

Experience delivering L4 autonomous vehicles or Robotaxi systems; Experience from adjacent fields such as robotics, autonomous trucking, aerospace, defence autonomy or other safety-critical physical AI systems
