Care Assistant for a teenage boy P/T

Finn is a joyful 14-year-old living in the Chew Valley. He is full of laughter and mischief and is very gregarious and friendly. He loves being outside, car/bus journeys, animals, driving his powerchair, water, music, baking, arts/crafts and people watching! When possible he likes sailing, kayaking, horse-riding and climbing! He needs help with all of these passions because of his cerebral palsy. This role is very flexible, and can be shaped to a large extent by your availability, interests and preferences. We will train you in personal care, tube feeding via gastric button, hoist transfers, positioning in wheelchairs, supporting Finn to drive himself in his powerchair and communicate using his eye gaze computer.

Responsibilities

Evening care once or twice a week between about 4pm-8.30pm including feeding, bath and bedtime routines; Daytime care on some weekends and in school holidays; Taking Finn out and about on trips/fun activities; Driving Finn in his wheelchair-adapted van; Personal care; Tube feeding via gastric button; Hoist transfers; Positioning in wheelchairs; Supporting Finn to drive himself in his powerchair; Supporting Finn to communicate using his eye gaze computer; Potential fully paid respite care periods of 24-48 hours
