Director, Media Solutions - Engineering, UK

WPP Media is WPP's AI-driven media operating unit, bringing together media, data, and partnerships to deliver creative personalisation at scale. Connected through WPP Open and powered by Open Intelligence, clients see exactly where, how, and why their media investment is working. Technical leadership for the Media Solutions engineering team. This is a UK based role and requires individuals to have the right to work in this location. WPP Media has adopted a hybrid approach, with teams in the office around four days a week.

Responsibilities

Technical leadership for the Media Solutions engineering team; sets standards, designs patterns, and delivery practices; ensures solutions are supportable, observable, and secure; mentors engineers; owns technical risk and quality gates; Aligns solution design with agreed architecture patterns set by the global team; Aligns work to the strategic initiatives and roadmap set by the platforms operations lead; Lead the software engineering team best practices, leadership and people management; Design, build, and evolve modern digital products using C#, TypeScript, and React (as applied to Next.js and Remix); Develop APIs and backend services using .NET Core and relational databases, supporting composable and data-driven architectures; Build cloud infrastructure in AWS or Azure using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code; Manage CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps to automate build and deployment processes; Work closely with Product, UX, Strategy, and DevOps specialists to co-create high-quality, outcome-focused solutions; Integrate with headless SaaS tools like Contentful, DatoCMS, Prismic, Algolia, and others in the composable ecosystem; Apply DevOps and performance engineering practices, including caching, observability, and scalability, to deliver resilient products; Contribute to the Software Engineering discipline, sharing knowledge and helping shape how technology is built and delivered

Requirements

Experience with C# / .NET Core, TypeScript, and React (Next.js / Remix); A good grasp of relational database design and API development; Practical experience deploying to Azure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform); Familiarity with headless CMS and composable architectures; A passion for building products that are accessible, performant, secure, and user-centred; A collaborative mindset, valuing working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and learning from others; Experience developing web applications in a modern technology stack with a strong foundation in both back-end and front-end development
