EHS Manager - Blue Point

As a key player in the Site Leadership Team reporting directly to the General Manager, the EHS Manager plays an important role in the overall leadership of the site by advancing a culture of EHS excellence where everyone is engaged, empowered and innovative in cultivating a workplace that promotes the safety and health of our employees, contractors, customers, business, local community, and the environment. As a departmental manager, major areas of responsibility include executing strategies, managing systems, developing people and delivering effective communications that ensure the Blue Point Complex operates within all applicable laws and regulations and in a safe, environmentally responsible manner. Key areas include environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, process safety, emergency response, security, and quality/lab services. This position is also the liaison with multiple stakeholders within and outside the organization, in both the public and private sector.

Responsibilities

Create a strategic vision for EHS performance and cultural excellence; Ensure everyone at site shares the vision, and foster employee commitment and engagement in the vision; Measure performance by identifying key measures of progress, understanding limits and boundaries of data, and creating mileposts and symbols to support and encourage improvement; Establish systems and leverage technology to identify, assess, manage, and mitigate EHS risks and ensure regulatory compliance; Implement audit processes that assess risk management and compliance assurance practices and systems; Manage EHS Knowledge by determining what skills, knowledge, and behaviors are needed for EHS success; Manage change by utilizing communication tools to influence impacted stakeholders; Establish the organizational structure of the EHS Team that aligns with the functional systems and supports the EHS strategy; Recruit staff by determining leadership and technical skills needed and actively recruit the best talent; Facilitate training programs that ensure all facility personnel are knowledgeable and understand EHS requirements; Prepare and administer annual departmental budget and actively contribute to the facility budgeting process; Set communication goals and objectives, identify critical audiences for communications, and develop key personalized messages; Develop effective communication channels, techniques, and tools; Demonstrate a site presence and leadership visibility, ensuring actions continually reinforce EHS as a core value; Foster a culture of open, continuous learning and sharing from all EHS incidents, near misses, and opportunities

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in Safety, Process Safety, or Environmental, or an Engineering degree in a related field; Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in the environmental, PSM, or safety fields, with demonstrated knowledge of safety and environmental regulations; At least 5 years of experience in a managerial role; Proficient in Microsoft IT environment including use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Knowledge of industrial codes and standards (API, ASME, ANSI, OSHA, State); Willingness to relocate to the project site (driving distance) and travel globally as needed; Must be able to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC); Ability to prove drug and alcohol free at random or for cause; Strong communication skills (written and verbal) required; Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with personnel of all backgrounds; Strong change management skills, strong analytical and decision-making abilities, and ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with regulatory authorities; Work involves climbing ladders, stairs and use of safety harnesses; Ability to work under minimum supervision and be self-motivated to the highest level possible
