Environmental Services Technician I

Clean/disinfects assigned area(s) by washing walls, doors, door frames, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, tile, fixtures, appliances, floors, and equipment with appropriate cleaning solutions using procedures and following schedules specific to each item. Assigned area(s) may include, but are not limited to, patient rooms, offices, meeting rooms, rest rooms, elevators, stairwells and other areas of the hospital and/or off-site facilities.

Responsibilities

Clean/disinfect assigned area(s) by washing walls, doors, door frames, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, tile, fixtures, appliances, floors, and equipment with appropriate cleaning solutions; Operate various equipment following department procedures; Use chemicals and solutions following department policy; Thoroughly wash and sanitize beds and clean and sanitize rooms and washrooms when patients are discharged; Replenish supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissues and soap; Routinely collect waste and sanitize garbage cans; Collect hazardous and medical waste according to Infection Control Committee procedures; Sweep, dust mop, wet mop floors and spot clean carpets; Move and arrange furniture and equipment; Collect and distribute linens as required; Maintain attendance and punctuality per Hospital Policy and Procedure Manual

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience; Able to operate small electrical equipment e.g., vacuum cleaners; Excellent customer service skills; Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and comprehending chemical labels and other safety materials; Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb and lift throughout the work day; Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance
