Full Stack Software Engineer, Lab Platform (LIMS)

Full-time Hybrid work

Publication date: 04/11/2026

insitro is a physical AI company dedicated to unlocking causal human biology and accelerating the delivery of better medicines to patients. Its Lab Platform is a software layer that ties together scientific, automation, and machine learning platforms. It is built as an agentic workflow system that lets scientists drive the lab through an agent, with the goals that everything in the lab is agentically accessible, agentically legible, and humanly verifiable. The role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Software Engineering, and offers an in-person hybrid schedule of three days per week in South San Francisco.

Responsibilities

Build the React and TypeScript frontends scientists use, the Python services behind them, and integrations with instruments, Benchling, and agent runtimes; Own features end to end, from first conversation with a scientist through data model and UI to alerting; Write code, review design docs, talk to users, and do code reviews; Ship agentic tooling that scientists find useful; Test agentic tooling ideas through prototypes, real users, and short iterative loops; Contribute work that advances insitro's mission and the pace of drug development; Spend time in the lab observing workflows before changing them; Collaborate closely with machine learning, automation, and biology teams; Design for provenance and verifiability so a scientist can always check what an agent did and why

Requirements

2–4+ years of experience as a professional software engineer; Working knowledge of AWS or GCP, relational databases, and standard practices like version control and code review; Product Instinct: thinks like a product person, wants to know who the user is and what they're trying to do; Curious About the Science: wants to learn the drug development domain, no biology background required; Comfortable in the Gray Area: can reason clearly about tradeoffs between quality and speed; Fits the Team: willing to write design docs, have opinions in code review, and collaborate on Slack

Nice to have

Experience with LIMS, lab automation, or another life sciences domain; Experience building with LLMs or agent frameworks, including tool and skill design, evaluation, or getting a model to behave reliably against real systems; Stack familiarity with Django, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Docker, or AWS

Benefits

Annual Performance Bonus Plan; Equity Incentive Plan; 401(k) plan with employer matching; Medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus mental health and well-being support; Open, flexible vacation policy; Paid parental leave of at least 16 weeks for birthing parents and 10 weeks for new parents; Quarterly budget for books and online courses; New hire stipend for home office setup; Monthly cell phone and internet stipend; Free onsite baristas and daily lunch for onsite or hybrid employees; Free commuter bus network to South San Francisco HQ from around the Bay Area
