Head of Data Governance

Data has become one of the most important assets in modern organisations. This role provides the opportunity to shape how BOQ governs, protects and derives value from that asset. As Head of Data Governance, you will lead the enterprise agenda for data governance, data quality, critical data elements, lineage, privacy and lifecycle management. This is a highly visible leadership role that sits at the intersection of business, risk, technology and regulation. BOQ Group is a group of challenger brands (Bank of Queensland, ME Bank, Virgin Money Australia, BOQ Specialist) sharing the goal of building social capital through banking.

Responsibilities

Lead the enterprise agenda for data governance, data quality, critical data elements, lineage, privacy and lifecycle management; Establish standards, controls and evidence to ensure data is available, trusted, explainable and defensible; Work with executives, business leaders, data owners and risk partners to build a governance model that enables delivery; Ensure accountability for data sits where data is created, managed and used; Strengthen enterprise accountability for data with business data owners, stewards and executives; Ensure governance obligations are understood, owned and embedded in day-to-day decision-making; Provide clear standards, transparent reporting and continuous improvement to lift data quality and control effectiveness; Ensure the organisation meets evolving business, regulatory and AI-related obligations; Engage with executives, audit and regulatory stakeholders

Requirements

Experience leading enterprise data governance, data quality, risk or regulatory programs within complex environments; Ability to influence stakeholders across business, technology and risk functions; Ability to balance control and compliance requirements with agility, practicality and delivery; Experience establishing governance frameworks and driving accountability across diverse stakeholder groups; Experience providing clear visibility of data quality, lineage and risk; Ability to communicate complex data concepts in commercial terms and build credibility with executives, auditors and regulators; Experience across data governance, data quality, privacy, critical data elements, lineage, control frameworks, data risk management and regulatory engagement; Experience operating in highly regulated industries; Experience supporting modern data and AI environments; Sound judgement, integrity and curiosity; Ability to challenge constructively and simplify complexity
