Interpreter ASL, SMH

The Sign Language Interpreter provides interpreting services for all clinical and professional University of Rochester Medical Center Staff, patients, and caregivers. These services are provided for SMH inpatient, HH inpatient, URMC ambulatory and affiliates within the interpreter services radius.

Responsibilities

Provides interpreting services for all clinical and professional URMC staff, patients, and caregivers; Autonomously interprets individual, multidisciplinary, and group encounters; Manages flow of communication throughout healthcare encounter; Promotes patient autonomy and maintains impartiality; Facilitates cultural mediation between patients and providers; Participates in continuing education and maintains certification; Completes administrative duties and required trainings

Requirements

2 years post-high school education required; Fluency in English and ASL required; RID, NAD, BEI level II (Written required, performance within 18 months of hire) required; or equivalent combination of education and experience required

Nice to have

Bachelor's degree preferred; 2 years interpreting in a healthcare setting strongly preferred; Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, clinical tests and procedures preferred; Strong customer service and communication skills preferred
