IUOE Building Mechanic A

Repairs and maintains buildings and most utility systems and equipment; performing a variety of services and skills, including repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, machines and facilities.

Responsibilities

Repairs and maintains buildings and most utility systems and equipment; Performs a variety of services and skills, including repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, machines and facilities; Repairs mechanical equipment by disassembling, replacing components, reassembling, and alignment and adjustment to common tolerances; Repairs certain electrical and plumbing lines, and most types of fixtures and equipment; Repairs or replaces certain components of buildings such as tile, doors, walls, windows, stairs, roofs, woodwork, and cabinets; Receives and answers service requests and trouble calls; Works from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and from verbal instructions; Keeps records and makes reports of daily work; Compiles with safety regulations; Maintains cleanliness of work area and insures that tools and equipment are kept in good working order; Performs other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as directed

Requirements

High school diploma plus 2-4 years experience in a mechanical/building trades or related environment; Equivalent combination of education and experience; Ability to read and write English and make mathematical calculations; Depending upon functional area, may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license and the ability to operate vehicles in a troublefree, safe, and skillful manner
