Med Assistant Training Program - 1.11.2027 start date

Children's Wisconsin is a nationally recognized health system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. The MAAPET Medical Assistant Training Program starts 1/11/2027. It is an 18 to 20 week, full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday training program with in-person classroom training at Employ Milwaukee and clinical externship hours at a Children's Wisconsin clinic. Trainees receive foundational coursework and training for a Medical Assistant Certification. Submitting a Children's Wisconsin application does not guarantee a spot in the training program. MAAPET is funded in whole or in part by the Department of Labor Nursing Expansion Grant.

Responsibilities

Complete foundational coursework and training for Medical Assistant Certification; Complete clinical externship hours at a Children's Wisconsin clinic; Complete coursework and studying in addition to classroom and externship schedule; Perform blood draws and immunizations on pediatric patients

Requirements

Milwaukee County resident; Prior healthcare experience; Ability to work full-time, 40 hours/week; Availability to continue working as a medical assistant for 2+ years at Children's Wisconsin after completing the training program; High School Diploma or GED; TABE score equal to a 6th grade level in Reading & Math; A passion for wanting to work in healthcare; Willingness to learn and perform both blood draws and immunizations to pediatric patients; Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment; Physical ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds, as well as push and pull when performing cleaning functions; Completion of Grant Eligibility Requirement Form (Step 1); Completion of TABE Test Assessment (Step 2); Interview and selection process (Step 3)
