Patient Access Coordinator

Under the guidance and direction of the Patient Access Supervisors, employees in this position are the initial point of contact for patients entering the Health System for care. This role requires exceptional customer service skills, the ability to maintain the highest level for professionalism with each interaction, and ability to support those with diverse cultural needs. This role supports multiple technical tasks needed to ensure patients are appropriately identified, registered, and scheduled for their care needs. This position is located in the Emergency Department. Hours are 7a-3:30p 40hrs per pay period. Schedule includes working e/o weekend as well as a Holiday Rotation.

Responsibilities

Act as initial point of contact for patients entering the Health System for care; Support multiple technical tasks to ensure patients are appropriately identified, registered, and scheduled; Meet department standard of 98% accuracy rate when identifying, scheduling, and registering patients; Collect 30% of eligible copayments; Coordinate bed placement activities with Patient Flow Facilitators and Nursing Leadership; Monitor bed occupancy and maintain appropriate bed numbers based on nursing staff; Act as point of contact for attending physicians on patients needing admission; Function as floor manager/emergency department support; Manage death process; Embrace technological solutions; Foster a culture of safety; Perform scheduling and registration duties accurately and independently

Requirements

Minimum one (1) year admitting experience to become proficient; Computer experience required; Strong telephone and interpersonal communication skills; Demonstrated skills in customer service; Knowledge of medical insurance; Able to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills

Nice to have

High school diploma preferred; two (2) years of college preferred
