SEIU Patient Care Technician

Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients.

Responsibilities

Provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures under the direction of a licensed nurse; Participates in the delivery of patient care by performing basic and specialized physical and psychosocial interventions; Collects and records specimens and body fluids; Performs direct patient care affecting the well being, comfort and safety of patients; Performs technical procedures including venipuncture for blood samples, EKGs, placing electrodes and obtaining telemetry readings; Collects patient data and documents on appropriate flow sheets; Collects specimens, performs basic tests or sends specimens to laboratory; Attends to patients' environmental needs and offers comfort measures; Orients patient/family to unit and patient room; Participates in Quality Assurance activities; Performs other duties as assigned by nurse

Requirements

High School Diploma and two years of experience in health care delivery in positions such as: Nursing Assistant; Home Health Aide; EMT; Medic/Corps Person; or two clinical semesters completed as a Nursing Student; or equivalent combination of education and experience
