Software Engineer II, Backend (Batch Developer Experience)

The Engineering team builds systems that power Affirm's mission, focusing on reliable, performant and scalable solutions. The Batch Developer Experience team makes batch development and testing faster and more reliable at Affirm. As a developer on this team you will partner with product and infrastructure engineers to build the tools and systems that streamline workflows, strengthen testing and improve the reliability of Affirm's critical batch workloads. This remote role is open only to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Responsibilities

Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery; Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design and analytics, participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs; Support the operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting "keep the lights on" and on-call efforts; Contribute to team community through growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process

Requirements

1.5+ years of total experience as a software engineer; Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems; Proficiency in one of Python or Kotlin; Familiarity with the building blocks of distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes; Experience taking a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, writing clear, well tested and extensible code; Comfortable navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews; Takes ownership of growth and proactively seeks feedback from team, manager and stakeholders; Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with a global engineering team
