Sr. Product Engineer

OpenGov is seeking a Senior Product Engineer to drive growth and expansion of OG Assist, our flagship AI assistant platform built specifically for governments. This is a hands-on technical role for an experienced practitioner who owns outcomes end to end: from discovery and iteration with customers, through architecture and implementation, to shipping production code on the platform. You operate comfortably in a fast-paced, AI-native environment, and you lead by example, both in the quality of your product thinking and the code you write, as you deliver impact for our customers. This role carries direct engineering impact, you are expected to write, review, and ship code yourself, not only partner with engineering to unblock others.

Responsibilities

Refine and communicate the product vision for OG Assist, grounded in customer research, competitive context, and business goals; Conduct and synthesize customer discovery and translate it into clear, defensible decisions about what to build and what to cut; Own the product roadmap, prioritize, explain reasoning publicly, and revise it when new facts warrant it; Design and build features end to end: architect solutions, write production code, and ship to customers; Define user experience flows and interaction patterns within the design system, then implement them; Write clear intent documents that AI tooling can execute against, and review and own AI-generated specs and code; Set technical direction within your area, make build-vs-buy calls, and resolve ambiguity during development without becoming a bottleneck; Track adoption, usage, and business outcome metrics and use them to drive the next iteration; Represent your product in customer conversations, QBRs, and cross-functional reviews; Identify gaps in AI harnesses, design system coverage, and platform capability, close those you can, and surface the rest as investment requests with business justification

Requirements

6 to 9 years of experience spanning product ownership and hands-on software engineering; track record of shipping production code in a SaaS environment; strong engineering fundamentals, comfortable owning a feature from design through implementation, testing, and deployment; proficiency in modern web technologies (TypeScript, React) and comfort picking up the specific stack used by OG Assist; demonstrated ability to own projects end to end, provide technical direction to peers, and keep stakeholders informed; strategic mindset that analyzes competitive landscape, market trends, and customer behavior to inform roadmap and architecture decisions; excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable defining UX flows and working within a design system, with the technical range to implement what you design; fluent in AI-native workflows for both product and engineering work and able to identify gaps in AI tooling and articulate platform investment needs; experience representing products in customer-facing forums (QBRs, discovery sessions, executive reviews)
