Support Worker – Young Adult (Community-Based, Relationship-Focused)

We are looking for a supportive, down-to-earth individual to work alongside a young adult, helping him build and maintain independence in everyday life. This is not a traditional “care” role — it’s about being a steady, consistent presence who offers gentle, practical support without taking over. Support visits are short, relaxed check-ins focused on things such as keeping on top of life admin, maintaining daily routines, attending health appointments, and light support with keeping his living space organised. The emphasis is on collaboration, encouragement, and shared momentum rather than direction or instruction.

Responsibilities

Help a young adult build and maintain independence in everyday life; Offer gentle, practical support without taking over; Provide short, relaxed check-ins focused on life admin, daily routines, attending health appointments, and light support with keeping living space organised; Be a steady, consistent presence; Help him stay on track, reconnect with routines, and keep moving forward while respecting his autonomy

Requirements

Supportive, down-to-earth individual; Calm, grounded, and genuine approach; Ability to work alongside someone as an equal; Offer gentle, non-directive support; Encourage without pressuring; Build rapport through natural conversation and shared interests; Empathy, patience, and ability to work in a low-key, respectful way; Available for 3 x 30-minute drop-in visits per week; Preferred days Monday, Wednesday, Friday; Preferred times late morning to early afternoon

Nice to have

Formal understanding of autism; Informal experience supporting a family member or someone known who is autistic; Shared interests in cars/aviation, football, politics, gaming, geography, or Starbucks and chatting; A young male support worker may be a good fit due to relatability, but any background is welcome
