The Ultrasound Maternal Fetal Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic maternal fetal medicine sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

Performs diagnostic maternal fetal medicine sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice; selects appropriate imaging parameters, modes and techniques to identify, investigate, evaluate and document anatomical, pathological and functional data; implements ALARA safety standards and performs quality control procedures on equipment; troubleshoots, resolves and/or reports equipment malfunctions; positions patients and performs imaging procedures; analyzes images, identifies image quality issues and takes corrective action including repositioning patient and repeating procedure if clinically appropriate; performs routine and advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures at an advanced specialist skill level; uses the healthcare system's and MFM division's electronic medical records and ultrasound reporting system; assists MFM physician with ultrasound guided procedures and specimen collection; reports anomalies to MFM physician and obtains follow-up images; follows established protocols for fetal evaluation and diagnosis; reviews patient history and physician orders; educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams; prepares office and ultrasound equipment and supplies and coordinates service, maintenance and upgrades; prepares and maintains required written documentation; participates in designing and implementing policies and procedures

Requirements

Accredited Ultrasound Technologist program or foreign diploma recognized by ARDMS; American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) credential; BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross); Certification in OBGYN; Nuchal Translucency (NT) Certification; minimum of one (1) year of OBGYN sonography experience; understanding of fetal anatomy (1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester), abnormalities and an investigative approach to MFM ultrasounds; basic ability to perform Dopplers (umbilical artery, middle cerebral artery, ductus venosus) and know their indications; ability to evaluate multiple gestations, chorionicity and amnionicity; ability to perform diagnostic transvaginal ultrasound; ability to assist with CVS, amniocentesis and percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS); critical thinking, effective communication and decisive judgment; ability to work with minimal supervision in a high-volume, complex environment; reliable transportation to travel between clinic sites; ability to work variable shifts or provide weekend coverage

Nice to have

Experience in a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) practice; experience performing and interpreting 3D imaging; Nasal Bone (NB) Certification; Cervical Length Education and Review (CLEAR) certification; American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) certification; Fetal Echo Certification; interest in continued medical education and staying up to date on ultrasound techniques
