Pediatric Cardiology Data Abstractor

Under general supervision, performs duties involved in the collection, interpretation, and documentation of medical events data in support of research and information gathering activities. Researches and abstracts medical records.

Responsibilities

Independently abstracts and interprets pertinent data from medical records with an average level of accuracy and efficiency; Maintains extensive knowledge of study protocol, diseases, medical terminology and pharmaceutical drugs to make informed decisions regarding patient hospitalizations; Reads, understands and abstracts information from diagnostic reports and procedures; Participates in quality control reviews; Resolves problems related to data queries sent by the coordinating center; Attends training for annual re-certification programs, attends conferences for continuing education, attends and represents the WFUHS site at abstractor training and conference calls; Communicates effectively and timely with the coordinating center; Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and one year experience; or an equivalent education and experience; Detail-oriented and self-motivated; Works independently abstracting records with high level of accuracy and above average efficiency rate of expected quota; Shows satisfactory performance of additional independent study related duties; Works well in a team environment; Ability to reach and bend; Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 100lbs.

Nice to have

Coursework in anatomy & physiology and medical terminology preferred; Registered Nurse experience preferred; Cardiac Clinical experience preferred
