City Planner

The Office of Cityscape & Franchises at the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) oversees a wide range of programs related to the installation, operation, and management of various streetscape elements citywide. The Office is seeking two City Planners to assist with the rapid expansion of its concession program, driven by growth in the Plaza and Open Street programs and other concession opportunities on DOT's right-of-way.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate and manage concessions (including those supporting the citywide Plaza and Open Streets programs); plan, coordinate and manage public toilet installations; manage franchises, including historic ones, and other programs managed by the unit; support the unit Director with contract management and program management; coordinate and develop the unit's tracking database project; manage electronic files and databases; conduct community outreach; prepare submissions to the Public Design Commission; present to Community Boards; communicate and coordinate with Business Improvement Districts, other not-for-profit and private entities, and senior level staff

Requirements

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or a related field; or baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning (such as review and development of housing, transportation, environmental, and city-owned land planning projects); or a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the master's degree option, with all candidates required to hold a baccalaureate degree; candidates must be serving permanently in the title of City Planner or be reachable on the City Planner civil service list; excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills
