Acute Inpatient Patient Care Technician - PCT CCHT - Dialysis

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) at Fresenius Medical Care support and collaborate with RNs to provide dialysis treatment to several patients at a time while maintaining the functionality of the clinic. This involves prepping and testing equipment, reviewing treatment sheets, and opening the clinic at 4am for first shift. PCTs have a combination of technical skills and genuine passion needed to develop deep relationships with patients and improve their quality of life. Qualified candidates have prior customer service, healthcare and direct patient care experience, and will have the opportunity to learn the discipline of dialysis.

Responsibilities

Provide patient care under supervision of FMCNA RN in the acute setting; Promote and assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment; Set up and prime equipment as directed by Fresenius Nurse; Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their well-being; Evaluate vascular access for patency; Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; Perform vascular access cannulation; Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, sodium modeling, and UF modeling; Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled; Record vital signs and treatment parameters; Initiate renal replacement treatment according to prescribed orders; Collect, label, and deliver specimens to laboratory; Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention; Monitor patient response to dialysis therapy; Discontinue dialysis treatment according to procedures; Evaluate patient prior to discharge and report unusual findings to FMCNA RN

Requirements

CCHT Certification Required; High School Diploma or equivalent; valid PCT national certification or state specific certification as defined by CMS; 1-2 years related experience; prior customer service, healthcare and direct patient care experience
