Acute Ultrasound Technologist I

This position performs ultrasound exams to support physicians in diagnosing and monitoring medical conditions, delivering high-quality imaging with a strong focus on patient comfort and safety. Part of Banner Imaging at BUMC South Tucson (2800 E Ajo Way), Ultrasound - Hosp department, Day shift, Clinical Care job category. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 11AM to 7:30PM. On-call is required for this role.

Responsibilities

Performs all ultrasound exams by following and verifying referring providers' orders; Adheres to established protocols and provides pertinent patient information for Radiologist dictation; Performs ultrasound guided procedures and works closely with radiologist or provider; Educates patients and families about procedures and/or treatment; Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements; Performs equipment troubleshooting and notifies appropriate personnel; Maintains a safe environment and adheres to safety policies; Demonstrates competence in prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable; Maintains proficiency and competencies for certification-related studies; Maintains ethical, legal, professional, and certification responsibilities and confidentiality; Manages patient triage and prioritization for efficient workflow; Monitors and maintains adequate inventory of supplies and materials

Requirements

National certification in one area of specialty from ARDMS, CCI, or ARRT; Uncertified Registry-eligible hires must obtain certification within 12 months of hire and image with an experienced technologist until fully proficient; BLS certification required; Completion of an approved Ultrasound program; Clinical knowledge typically achieved by 0-3 years of experience; Effective communication skills; Human relations skills; Ability to analyze data and solve problems; Scanning competencies across all patient ages, acuity levels, and classes, independently and without quality issues
