Companion Care worker

The Companion Care Worker provides for the maintenance of a safe and clean environment by performing general light cleaning duties throughout client's homes including, but not limited to the cleaning of client rooms and bathrooms, vacuuming, meal preparation, transportation and companionship activities for clients in their Home environment, improving the quality of life for the client and assisting them to maintain their independence at home. The Companion Care Worker will NOT perform personal care services such as bathing, dressing or shaving; heavy lifting or transferring of clients; administering medications; heavy-duty household chores; household repairs and maintenance; or cutting clients' fingernails or toenails.

Responsibilities

Maintain a safe and clean environment by performing general light cleaning duties in client homes; Adhere to Right at Home policies and procedures, including participation in Quality Assurance activities; Perform homemaking activities such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping or mopping floors, doing dishes, changing bed linen, laundry and cleaning bathrooms; Prepare meals and snacks for clients according to client/family and supervisor's instructions; May perform grocery shopping if prearranged with the office; Provide companionship, including accompanying clients on walks, trips to social/recreational activities and assistance with hobbies; Document services provided in the client record and by use of the telephony system; Refer all questions or reports to the RN/Care Manager; Communicate effectively with clients, significant others and the Care Team while ensuring confidentiality of client information; Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills through In-Service training, particularly in Work Health & Safety; Perform other duties as directed by the Care Manager

Requirements

Successfully completed a written Competency Evaluation; Genuinely caring and empathetic attitude towards the care of the sick; Ability to deal with the demands of the job; Communicate effectively (written, oral and comprehension skills)
