Gen is hiring a Director of Product Management, Special Projects to own a portfolio of high-stakes, net-new product initiatives — reporting directly to the Global Head of Financial Wellness Technology. This is a senior product leadership role built for someone who thrives at the frontier of what's possible. Your primary work is leading complex 0→1 initiatives end-to-end: owning the roadmap, driving execution, partnering with Engineering and Design, and shipping. You are not an advisor or a strategist sitting outside the work — you are a product manager who carries full accountability for outcomes. The initiatives you'll own are technically deep, cross-functional, and high-consequence, requiring you to move comfortably from partner negotiation to product spec to launch readiness.
Responsibilities
Own a portfolio of net-new product initiatives end-to-end — from problem definition and roadmap through execution, launch, and iteration; Drive 0→1 product development on complex, cross-functional initiatives — write the specs, align the teams, make the tradeoffs, and ship; Operate fluently in fintech's technical complexity: payments infrastructure, financial rails, compliance considerations, and the operational nuance of building in regulated environments; Interface directly with external partners — financial institutions, fintech infrastructure providers, distribution partners — from first conversation through product integration and launch; Define product vision for your initiatives, grounding ambitious thinking in technical feasibility, user needs, and business impact; Define success metrics across your portfolio, instrument them, and drive accountability through data and experimentation; Raise the bar on how the product organization works — finding better ways to run product, sharper meetings, faster signal on what's shipping and how it's performing, smarter use of AI throughout the product development lifecycle; Partner closely with Engineering, Design, Analytics, Finance, and external partnersRequirements
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field; 12+ years of product management experience; 4+ years leading senior-level initiatives or managing PMs at high-growth fintech, marketplace, or large-scale consumer technology companies; A strong product management track record — shipped complex products in technically demanding environments; Energized by owning a problem fully: the roadmap, the execution, the partner relationships, and the results; Deep comfort with technical complexity — understand architecture, ask the right questions, earn the respect of strong engineers; Experience working with external partners and translating commercial relationships into concrete product requirements and execution plans; Strong AI product sensibility — understand how to build AI-powered systems, not just use them; Exceptional written and verbal communication; Low ego, high ownership; Proven track record owning revenue-critical product areas with meaningful P&L influence; Deep experience in marketplace dynamics, personalization, acquisition funnels, and conversion optimization; Strong technical fluency (APIs, backend systems, event pipelines, experimentation frameworks, data architecture); Experience defining and executing an AI strategy for consumer product surfaces; Comfortable partnering with Engineering Directors, Data Science leadership, and Design leadership on multi-quarter platform decisions; Demonstrated ability to scale PM teams — hiring, mentoring, and setting standards for PM craft; Exceptional communication, influencing, and executive-level stakeholder management; Senior leader who operates with high autonomy and a strong bias for action; Player-coach orientation — willing to be hands-on now, with discipline to build and lead a team as scope grows; Strategic and pragmatic — able to move between long-term Marketplace architecture and week-by-week execution detail; Scrappy and relentlessly customer-driven, with a track record of driving clarity through ambiguity; Sees AI as a core teammate — leverages it to move faster and multiply team leverageNice to have
