EEG Technologist I

Develops a knowledge and understanding of basic electronics, general anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy and physiology, clinical neurophysiology, and neurophysiological diagnostic procedures and protocols. Performs Electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings under direct or indirect supervision on adult and pediatric patients. As skill level increases; may perform complex neurophysiology procedures. Acts as a liaison between the electroencephalographer, physicians and senior technologists to coordinate, perform or provide technical assistance during complex and highly technical procedures. As skill level increases; may train new hires.

Responsibilities

Develops knowledge and understanding of basic electronics, anatomy, physiology, neuroanatomy, clinical neurophysiology, and neurophysiological diagnostic procedures; Performs Electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings on adult and pediatric patients under supervision; May perform complex neurophysiology procedures as skill level increases; Acts as liaison between electroencephalographer, physicians, and senior technologists; May train new hires; Performs routine and complex EEGs, long term epilepsy monitoring (LTM), neurotelemetry, and patient safety monitoring; Works under indirect supervision during shifts including days, evenings, and overnights; Takes on-call on a rotation basis; Maintains HSPP certification and participates in research data collection; Maintains clean laboratory and calibrates medical devices; Prepares patient scheduling, history, encounter, and billing forms; Participates in didactic and practical instruction and conferences; Maintains R.EEG.T through CEUs and ACE credits; Trains new hires in EEG after 3 years of EEG experience; Travels to various inpatient and outpatient locations to perform EEG and EP recordings

Requirements

Associate's degree required; Or equivalent combination of education and experience; Relevant training/education required to meet eligibility for EEG registration; May be on the job training; Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision required; EEG-R - Electroencephalographic Technician Registration within 8 years required
