AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Highway Engineering Intern for our transportation department in the Roanoke, VA office. As an intern in the transportation department, you will assist in the design of various infrastructure projects.

This position is expected to begin Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.; Prepare engineering related calculations.; Perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.; Assist in the site visits for roadway projects.; Prepare details for construction drawings using CAD software.; Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

Requirements

Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or in another related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and plan to continue with the Master’s Degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Nice to have

Completed courses related to transportation, fluid mechanics, hydraulics.; Ability to follow procedures and pay attention to detail.; Good written and oral communications skills.; Familiarity with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.; Proficiency in developing calculations using software like Excel.; Interest in highway design is desired.
