Histology Lab Operator II

The Histology Lab Operator II is a member of the Histopathy Department responsible for assisting HT/HTLs in analyzing specimens and maintaining equipment in good condition.

Responsibilities

Assists certified/licensed personnel in clinical patient testing in accordance with the SOP; Perform histological preparations for the tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors; Duties may include but not limited to: preparation of tissues, stained slides, macrodissection and supporting workflow tasks; Sets up equipment and assists with automated lab procedures, as applicable; Assist and complete daily tasks; Maintains equipment and instruments in good operating condition; Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory for the performance of duties; Documents information accurately and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP); Provides Guidance for new team members; Train on specialized instructions for instruments/protocols (super users); Identifies and escalates stuck cases and unresolved issues; Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

A minimum of 2+ years related experience; An associate's, or higher, degree in a histotechnician program OR an associate's degree, or higher, in one of the chemical or biological sciences AND one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years OR completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program OR a bachelor's, or higher, degree in one of the chemical or biological sciences, including a combination of thirty (30) hours in biology and chemistry, and either one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years OR completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program; A copy of the degree is required at the time of hire; The degree must either be from the US or equivalent to a US degree; Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Word processing and data management; Ability to work well in a group; Adhere to the department's time and attendance guidelines; Must be able to lift boxes or supplies up to 35 lbs.
