Housing Navigator

The Housing Navigator position provides direct client support to assist individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This role is responsible for conducting client intakes, determining program eligibility, collecting and verifying documentation, maintaining accurate case records, and connecting clients to housing and community resources. The position also assists with housing navigation activities, landlord engagement, outreach, lease-up coordination, and ongoing housing retention efforts. Working closely with case managers, community partners, and property owners, this role helps ensure clients receive timely, coordinated, and person-centered services while supporting the organization’s mission to promote housing stability and prevent homelessness. This is a grant-funded position and may only be temporary employment unless other grants can continue to support the position.

Responsibilities

Conduct client intakes and gather demographic, financial, and personal information; Determine program eligibility and screen clients; Collect, verify, and organize required documentation; Maintain accurate case records and enter client information in case management systems; Connect clients to housing and community resources; Assist with housing navigation, landlord engagement, outreach, lease-up coordination, and housing retention; Provide referrals to community resources and supportive services; Support case managers with light caseload support; Attend agency and community meetings; Coordinate housing and homelessness-related activities with the County of Ventura and local organizations

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and other related computer programs; Required languages: English; 1 - 2 years of experience; Commits to the organization; Embraces diversity and inclusion; Seizes learning; Personifies teamwork; Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell; occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Nice to have

Associate or bachelor's degree in social work, Human Services, or related field; General knowledge and experience in Ventura County, the VA, and the local network of community-based health and human services organizations serving low-income homeless populations or veteran families at risk of homelessness; Research related software
