Industrial Hygienist/Safety Specialist

We are seeking a midlevel Industrial Hygienist to provide fulltime onsite industrial hygiene and occupational safety support at a government headquarters in Washington, DC. This position is primarily administrative in nature, supporting safety and occupational health programs through documentation, reporting, program management, and policy development, with limited field based industrial hygiene support as needed. The Industrial Hygienist will play a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance, improving safety program effectiveness, and supporting leadership through clear written communication, data analysis, and incident review. Strong writing, organization, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Maintain and manage OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping, including OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs; Conduct safety incident reviews, root cause analyses, and trend evaluations; prepare clear written summaries and corrective action recommendations; Support development, review, and periodic updates of safety and industrial hygiene policies, SOPs, and program documents; Assist with internal and external safety audits, inspections, and assessments; track findings and corrective actions to closure; Prepare high quality written reports, memoranda, SOPs, policy updates, and briefing materials; Maintain organized electronic records for incidents, inspections, training, and IH program documentation; Coordinate with stakeholders, contractors, and management to support safety initiatives and compliance requirements; Provide limited field support for traditional industrial hygiene activities such as exposure assessments, basic air or noise monitoring, and walkthrough evaluations; Assist with hazard recognition and qualitative exposure assessments; Support PPE evaluations and recommendations; Ensure work aligns with OSHA regulations and applicable federal requirements; Support continuous improvement of safety and IH programs through data analysis and best practice recommendations

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health, safety, engineering, or a related STEM field; Minimum 3-6 years of professional industrial hygiene or occupational safety experience, with demonstrated administrative and programmatic responsibilities; Working knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping and incident investigation processes; Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and recommendations; Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint or similar systems); Ability to work effectively onsite in a federal office environment and interact professionally with government staff
