IUOE Steamfitter/Plumber A

Operates maintains and repairs equipment and facilities such as: high, medium and low pressure steam piping systems and boilers at outlying properties; domestic hot and cold water systems; pure water systems (deionized and distilled); storm, sanitary and acid waste sewer systems; natural and other gas systems; fire protection systems and swimming pool systems; and repairs, replaces and installs piping systems; installs pipe insulation.

Responsibilities

Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment and facilities such as high, medium and low pressure steam piping systems, boilers, domestic hot and cold water systems, pure water systems, storm/sanitary/acid waste sewer systems, natural and other gas systems, fire protection systems, and swimming pool systems; Repairs, replaces, and installs piping systems and pipe insulation; May guide and direct the work of and train lower classified personnel; Uses welding and soldering equipment, saws, cutters, pipe benders and threaders, and other steamfitter and plumber tools; Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds and installs steam valves, steam traps, heat exchangers, radiators, humidifiers, condensate piping, and condensate/vacuum return pumps; Installs piping from chilled water lines to air conditioning units and from steam lines to heating units; Installs filtration and water treatment equipment; Cuts, threads, solders, brazes, welds, fuses, and beads metal, glass, plastic and other piping materials; Reviews and performs work on all systems for proper operation and optimum efficiency; Installs and/or modifies systems from verbal instructions, blueprints, plans, specifications, schematics, and manufacturers' recommendations; Troubleshoots systems and components, identifies problems and makes repairs; Keeps records and makes reports of daily work, emergency/service calls, and troubleshooting results; Complies with safety regulations of the University and local, state and federal agencies; Maintains cleanliness of work area and ensures tools and equipment are kept in good working order; Performs other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility

Requirements

Trade school training and 2-3 years experience as a Steamfitter or Plumber; 4 years of apprentice training and 1-2 years experience as a Steamfitter or Plumber; equivalent combination of education and experience
