Lab Technologist

Precisely and accurately performs and evaluates variety of technical procedures. Utilizes accepted quality control techniques with the aid of different methodologies. May perform diagnostic procedures in other laboratory sections as needed.

Responsibilities

Perform all Blood Bank procedures required for the safe issuing of blood, including cross matches, type and screens, issuing units, antibody panels, DAT workups, donor work-ups utilizing ISBT labeling, preparation of components, and processing blood received from outside facilities; Perform and result all automated and manual Chemistry procedures, including troubleshooting Chemistry instruments and blood gas testing; Perform and result all automated and manual Hematology procedures, including troubleshooting and maintaining Hematology instruments, coagulation studies, CBCs with differentials, body fluid analysis, and peripheral smears for blood parasites; Perform all aspects of Microbiology planting and processing of send-out tests, including PCR testing, reading plates, blood cultures, susceptibility testing, gram stains, Mycology, and wet and microscopic Urinalysis testing; Organize work during heavy workloads and keep the work area clean and organized; Note critical results and call them in the proper time frame; Maintain open communication with physicians, nursing staff and co-workers; Consult with supervisor to resolve technical problems; Maintain competencies and continuing education requirements; Assist with teaching students and orienting new employees; Perform all quality control and participate in quality assurance monitors; Assist the supervisor with reviewing policies and procedures

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Biological Science; ASCP certified generalist or categorical Technologist or equivalent accreditation or letter of Technologist eligibility from ASCP required; Non-certified applicants must successfully acquire certification within 12 months of hire or promotion; 0-1 year(s) of work-related experience; Consistently promote a culture of Wellbeing, Empathy, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Equity as outlined in the organization's WE CARE values
