Litigation Counsel

GEICO is seeking an experienced attorney to join its in-house Litigation Management team as Counsel within the Corporate Litigation and Investigations Division. This position advises the claims organization on litigation arising from auto insurance policies, with a particular focus on bad faith, extra-contractual exposure, and broader litigation management matters. The Counsel will work closely with cross-functional business partners and be part of a collaborative legal department recognized for delivering practical, business-oriented advice.

Responsibilities

Provide legal advice to the Claims organization on complex claims, coverage issues, bad faith matters, and extra-contractual allegations; Conduct factual and legal research and analysis; Contribute to trial strategy and trial preparation, including evaluating case posture, advising on legal and business risk, coordinating with outside counsel, preparing witnesses, and supporting overall case strategy through trial; Develop and deliver internal presentations on legal issues and related projects; Advise GEICO leadership on pending claims-related litigation, emerging issues, and relevant litigation trends

Requirements

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; 5-7 years of litigation management experience at a law firm or in-house role; Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers; Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders effectively; Sound judgment in balancing legal risk with business objectives; Trial and/or appellate experience; Experience handling bad faith or extra-contractual litigation against an insurance company; Strong research and writing skills

Background in auto insurance coverage and litigation; Experience working as a Claims Counsel or Claims Attorney at an insurance company; Experience working with cross-functional teams, both legal and non-legal
