Medical Assistant Gastroenterology

Medical Assistant position in the New River Trails Gastroenterology department at Banner Health Center in Glendale, Arizona. The role assists clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care and implementing and evaluating direct patient care. Day work shift, scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as four 10-hour shifts, to be discussed during interview.

Responsibilities

Prepares patients for exams and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms and other necessary measurements, and recording chief complaint; Assists providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, ear irrigation and EKGs; Acts as chaperone as needed; Coordinates and manages patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions and scheduling; Communicates test results to patients; May administer medications per established policies; Provides clerical support, medical records documentation and billing information; Maintains a clean, functional environment and disinfects equipment; Orders supplies and manages medication ordering; Develops and maintains effective communication with internal and external customers; Completes on-boarding/orientation activities, including simulation training

Requirements

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge; Completion of a Banner approved medical assistant training program that also meets state defined regulations; Active Medical Assistant Certification (RMA from AMT, CMA from AAMA, CCMA from NHA, or NCMA from NCCT); BLS certification required upon hire; Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software; Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion

Nice to have

Experience with office medical procedures and treatments; Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software; Additional related education and/or experience
