Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

Children’s Wisconsin is a nationally recognized health system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. NNP's are responsible for the day to day management of critically ill and convalescing infants in collaboration with the Neonatologist - leading care and coordinating the efforts of the health care team. This includes specialized neonatal care i.e. delivery room resuscitation, stabilization, initiation of infant treatment and necessary procedures, prescribing diagnostic testing, medications and therapies, and providing family support.

Responsibilities

Day to day management of critically ill and convalescing infants in collaboration with the Neonatologist; leading care and coordinating the efforts of the health care team; providing specialized neonatal care including delivery room resuscitation, stabilization, initiation of infant treatment and necessary procedures; prescribing diagnostic testing, medications and therapies; providing family support; providing select nursing and medical staff education; consultation; advocacy for patients, families and nursing staff; involvement in professional development and research; participation and leadership in unit committees and councils; improvement of unit-specific neonatal outcomes; obtaining and summarizing health history, performing comprehensive physical examinations, making accurate clinical diagnoses, and formulating individual treatment plans; performing needed diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; collaborating with nurses and interdisciplinary colleagues; using research-based evidence to formulate, evaluate, and revise treatment plans, policies, and standards of care; facilitating patient/family teaching; identifying ethical conflicts and promoting ethical decision-making and patient advocacy

Requirements

Master's degree in Nursing; Two or more years of clinical experience; License Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber (33) - State of Wisconsin required within 180 days; License RN - Registered Nurse (30) - State of Wisconsin required; NRP; BLS; DEA number must be obtained within 6 months of hire
