PCT II/III, Cardiac Stepdown Unit, 40 Hours, Days

Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team. Position for a 1 - Day Shift, 8 Hours schedule, 7a-3p, 40 hours per week, in the Cardiac Step Down Unit (Cost Center 10020 - 1408 Cardiac Step Down). Union: SHARE (State Healthcare and Research Employees). Non-Exempt.

Responsibilities

Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations and changes; Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned; Participates in maintaining a safe environment, including de-escalation and restraint procedures per training; Assists patients with daily living activities; Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients; Maintains patient safety through safety checks and fall prevention; Takes and records vital signs, height and weight; Performs EKGs, Point of Care tests and bladder scanning; Collects, labels, and prepares specimens for transport to lab; Phlebotomy in certain locations; Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures; Observes, measures and records food and fluid intake and output; Performs ostomy care as directed; Answers telephones and relays messages; Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment; Performs unit secretary duties, telemetry monitoring, or remote video monitoring as assigned; Complies with departmental policies, health and safety regulations, and attends required meetings

Requirements

Minimum of a high school education or GED; Current Basic Life Support; Demonstrated competency attainment in the PCT II level; Prior inpatient/outpatient care experience or clinical care training; Ability to read, write and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner; Medical Terminology; Computer skills; Strong interpersonal skills; Proven problem-solving abilities for routine situations; Must be able to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations; Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; Standing and walking most of the time
