Principal Architect

We're hiring a Principal Architect to lead Granum's Architecture team and help drive the development of our technical roadmap. This is a hands-on player/coach role in which you'll lead a small team of architects and work in the code alongside them. You'll report to the CTO and work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Platforms, Product, and feature-pod leaders. Granum is the leading software company devoted to serving landscapers and arborists across North America.

Responsibilities

Technical Roadmap Execution: turning Granum's architecture roadmap into sequenced, visible work and spotting cross-team dependencies during quarterly planning; Standards and the foundation: architectural standards, guardrails, and patterns for building and wiring components into the existing app; Platform and technology stewardship: planning and coordinating major upgrades (Angular, .NET, shared libraries), evaluating new technologies, and driving down cross-team technical debt; Deployment and delivery enablement: deployment patterns and shared CI/CD guidance for teams to own deployment of their code safely; Security posture: application security, identity and access, and API exposure and security; The AI-native development model: defining how humans and agents interact in the process and ensuring architecture supports agentic development; The Architecture Pod: leading, growing, and setting the operating rhythm for the Architecture Pod, keeping it focused on foundation work; Leading a small team of architects and working in the code alongside them; Reporting to the CTO and working with Platforms, Product, and feature-pod leaders

Requirements

A track record as a hands-on architect who has led the architecture of a non-trivial, production SaaS platform and driven a real codebase forward; Deep .NET experience, including modernizing legacy .NET Framework systems; Understanding of systems and integration architecture (integrations, data flow, deployment topology) and how to evolve them safely; Understanding of API architecture, including how to expose, secure, and version APIs without breaking dependents; A security-first instinct, reasoning about auth, access, and exposure by default; Systems thinking and pragmatism, favoring boring, well-understood technology and community solutions over bespoke builds; Fluency with AI-assisted development, including agentic coding tools as a primary development mode; Product and customer focus, working closely with product managers and tying technical decisions to customer outcomes; Leadership experience leading engineers through feedback and unblocking, setting direction, growing people, and running a healthy team rhythm; Must have proper work authorization for Canada or the U.S. without sponsorship
