Public Health Nurse (RN)

As a Public Health Nurse in Washakie County, you’ll be at the forefront of promoting health and preventing disease within your community. Public Health Nursing is a specialized field that goes beyond traditional patient care—it’s about fostering wellness and resilience across populations. In this role, you’ll work closely with individuals, families, and groups to identify health needs, provide essential healthcare services, and connect people with valuable health resources. Our Public Health Nurses deliver a wide range of services tailored to community health, from administering vaccines and offering disease screenings to educating the public on health risks and healthy behaviors. You’ll play an integral role in shaping health policies, coordinating health initiatives, and responding to public health emergencies, ensuring that every member of the community has the support they need to thrive.

Responsibilities

Promote health and prevent disease within the community; Conduct nursing assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and evaluations in line with ANA's Public Health Nursing Standards; Arrange and lead community health clinics and health education classes; Support public health core functions, prioritizing services that meet community needs; Administer adult and child vaccines, provide STI/HIV testing, manage TB testing; Provide Ryan White case management, maternal and child home visitation, lactation counseling, and LT-101 reviews; Collaborate with the nurse manager and public health response coordinator on emergency preparedness activities; Work with individuals, families, and groups to identify health needs, provide essential healthcare services, and connect people with health resources; Educate the public on health risks and healthy behaviors; Shape health policies, coordinate health initiatives, and respond to public health emergencies

Requirements

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming; Valid driver's license required; Associate's Degree in Nursing; 0-2 years of progressive work experience in Nursing with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN (OR 3-5 years of progressive work experience in Nursing with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN); Knowledge of laws, principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing; Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records, charts, reports, and observations; Knowledge of principles of nursing process and scientific process; Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care; Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision-making; Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards; Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice; Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to healthcare; Knowledge of public health core functions and essential services; Must be able to lift medical equipment up to about 50 lbs; Must be able to climb stairs to patient homes and drive long distances; Must be able to travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested; Must be able to work evenings, nights, and/or weekends when the situation requires it; Must pass background check including fingerprints; Must complete Employee Health Assessment including verification of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases; Yearly influenza vaccination required unless medically contraindicated
