SEIU Adult Emergency Department Patient Care Technician-3

Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients; Participates in the delivery of patient care by performing basic and specialized physical and psychosocial interventions; Collects and records specimens and body fluids; Performs technical procedures and reports findings to the nursing staff; Performs venipuncture for blood samples, EKGs, placing electrodes and obtaining telemetry readings; Collects patient data and documents on appropriate flow sheets; Collects specimens, performs basic tests or sends specimens to laboratory; Attends to patients' environmental needs; Participates in Quality Assurance activities; Orients patient/family to unit and patient room; Performs other duties as assigned by nurse

Requirements

High School Diploma; two years of experience in health care delivery in positions such as: Nursing Assistant; Home Health Aide; EMT; Medic/Corps Person; or two clinical semesters completed as a Nursing Student; or equivalent combination of education and experience
