Senior Backend Software Engineer - Loki | NASA | Remote

Responsibilities

Take a very active role in influencing roadmap and career objectives; work with team to deliver new features and iterate; drive projects from initial idea to operations; embrace open-source culture and contribute to other projects; design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems owning reliability performance and availability; participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations; support other team members participate in design discussions and collaborate; learn new skills by understanding cloud product and customers and getting to know codebase of large distributed system

Requirements

Solid experience with at least one programming language; familiarity with Python, C, C++, Rust or similar; some experience delivering projects from requirements gathering to shipping; some experience developing software that runs in the Cloud or systems engineering; some experience with on-call and DevOps model; experience writing clean, robust, performant, maintainable software; familiarity with observability systems and when to use metrics, logs, traces to debug; motivated self-starter; customer-focused; pragmatism; collaboration and communication skills; independent attitude; good communication skills

Nice to have

Experience working with Kubernetes; experience working with queue systems e.g. Kafka protocol; been a user of Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles; exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems or desire to learn; familiarity with infrastructure as code
