Join 4C Strategies to build Exonaut end to end — Angular front ends, Java services and the data behind them — on a major UK defence programme. Own real architecture calls and shape what gets built. Much of this hasn’t been designed yet — and that’s the point. We’re building new parts of Exonaut and connecting it to a fast-growing landscape of systems (a data lakehouse, customer ERP platforms, optimisation engines, partner platforms). You’ll own and evolve parts of the Exonaut platform itself, across the full stack — the screens people use, the services behind them, and the data that flows through both. This is a Senior role with real ownership.
Responsibilities
Build Exonaut end-to-end: user-facing screens, backend services, and data, often from a rough idea, with maintainability, observability and security designed in from the start; figure out and build how Exonaut talks to a data lakehouse, customer ERP systems, optimisation engines and partner platforms; work across a modern full stack (component-based web front end, Java backend services, SQL databases, pipeline orchestration and transformation tooling); introduce event-driven and change-data-capture (CDC) patterns where they help keep data flowing in near-real-time; help raise engineering standards around code quality, automated testing, CI/CD and observability; mentor and coach engineers across the team; extend and modify the existing Exonaut platform, building front-end features, backend services and APIs; work directly with stakeholders on both sides, explaining trade-offs in plain language.Requirements
Full stack experience; independently led substantial pieces of work building both front-end and backend, connecting systems together and seeing through to production; still likes being close to the code; comfortable building modern web front ends with a component-based TypeScript framework (Angular) as well as backend services and APIs (REST and/or event-based); integrating with third-party systems such as ERP platforms, data stores and external engines; good grasp of integration patterns, authentication and performance; solid SQL and strong Java; comfortable with version control, code review, automated testing and CI/CD pipelines; energised rather than unsettled by ambiguity; able to pick up a new stack quickly; happy to define the problem rather than only solve a specified one; sound judgement around system and data design including integrating with a data warehouse/lakehouse; good instincts for streaming or event-driven approaches versus batch; good product and user-experience instincts; pragmatic about quality; strong communicator able to hold technical and plain-language conversations with engineers, project managers, designers and senior customer stakeholders; mentor by instinct; fluent written and spoken English; UK national and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC); genuine interest in mission.Nice to have
