Switchman

Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a Switchman at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Valdosta, GA to assist in various departments as needed by plant production. We are looking for someone to join our second shift team.

Responsibilities

Assists in various departments as needed by plant production; Operates locomotive to transport material and spot rail cars utilizing instructions from a switch list; Regularly operates locomotive in a congested area and must use considerable caution to prevent damage to rail cars or accidents to employees; Operates switches and directs flow of cars in rail yard; Maintains area in a neat and orderly manner and reports work hazards

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED or ability to successfully complete an on-site basic skills assessment; Valid driver's license; Ability to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently; Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision; Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime; Moderate physical exertion required; Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury
