1:1 Learning Support Assistant

We’re looking for a compassionate, resilient and dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist Alternative Provision in Hastings, supporting a young person with SEMH needs. Weekly pay £14.25 + per hour. This isn’t just another classroom role—it’s an opportunity to become a trusted adult, build confidence, inspire resilience and help a young person rediscover a love for learning.

Responsibilities

Providing dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day; Building a positive, trusting relationship with your pupil; Supporting emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour; Helping pupils access learning in a way that works for them; Encouraging independence, confidence and resilience; Working closely with teachers and therapeutic professionals to implement personalised support plans; Managing challenging behaviours calmly and positively; Promoting safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusion at all times; Recording progress and celebrating successes—no matter how small

Requirements

Compassionate; resilient; dedicated; patient; calm; passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs; confident building positive relationships through consistency and empathy; able to remain positive in challenging situations; excellent communicator and team player; flexible; proactive; committed to making a difference every day

Nice to have

Prior school experience not required; transferable experience from roles such as Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Residential Childcare, Care or Support Worker, Mental Health Support, Family Support, Sports Coach, Psychology or Criminology Graduate, Social Care, Police, Prison or Armed Forces, Mentoring or Community Support
