Digital Forensic Examiner III

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (BXDA) seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Digital Forensic Examiner to perform forensic analyses, document their process and findings, and testify in court. The Digital Forensics Laboratory, within the Strategic Innovations Division, forensically analyzes various types of digital evidence, including mobile devices, desktop and laptop computers, and portable storage devices. The BXDA DFL is the first accredited Digital Forensics Laboratory in New York City and the first at a prosecutorial agency in New York State. Physical requirements: light physical effort in sedentary to light work (lifting up to 25 pounds), extended periods at a keyboard or workstation, and exposure to offensive images and data due to the nature of the evidence. Confidentiality of Lab work must be maintained.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance to junior Lab personnel in various data extraction and analysis techniques; Act as technical lead in the execution of search warrants involving digital evidence retrieval and forensic examination of computers, mobile devices, and network media including video surveillance footage; Conduct research on mobile devices and computers including third party apps, OS specific features and changes, and cloud storage; Use advanced technical skills including reverse engineering to support investigations involving cryptocurrency, malware, and IoT devices; Research and develop custom scripts such as Python to analyze extracted data not readily supported by commercial forensic tools; Assist Lab Director in updating and maintaining internal Lab policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements; Assist Lab Director in conducting technical reviews of other examiners' work as per accreditation requirements; Extract and analyze electronic devices including mobile phones, tablets, desktop and laptop computers; Image and perform data recovery on Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, and Linux based devices; Write accurate and thorough reports following Digital Forensics Laboratory standards; Form and articulate expert opinions as a Senior Examiner, as needed; Testify to forensic analysis and reports in Grand Jury and Trial proceedings; Complete annual proficiency testing requirements; All other duties as assigned

Requirements

Master's Degree preferred (preferably in Computer Forensics, Computer Science, Computer Security, or Information Security) AND three (3) years professional digital forensic experience; or Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Computer Forensics or Cyber Security) and a minimum of four (4) years of professional digital forensic experience
